Fight the smears

I'm not entirely sure it's in the best interests of a candidate for the US Presidency to create a webpage outlining all the lies and smears that his opponents have created. On the other hand, perhaps it is in fact the best way to diffuse the situation.

The Obama camp has created a site that details the smears, and rebuts them with truth. I read through it, and was both surprised at the absurdity of some of the lies, but also impressed with how easily they are dispelled.

For those who support Obama I recommend keeping a link to this site readily at hand to combat any forwards or statements from people you know. Send it out in bulk or just send it to those who have something to say, but read it yourselves so that you will know the truth.

I wrote an article on this very topic. The concept is brilliant. The internet has changed the face of the politics and the Obama camp is wise enough to use it to their full advantage.

However, this site is a joke at best since it perpetrates Obama's victim status using the very things it claims to fight - lies and smears.

Senator Obama is NOT a Dirty Muslim!

"What you won't hear from this campaign or this party is the kind of politics that uses religion as a wedge," says Mr. Obama, while denouncing statements of him being a Muslim as a smear. Why is the presidential candidate who claims to be religiously inclusive is treating the word "Muslim" as an insult? Apparently, it is OK for Mr. Obama to be associated with terrorists like William Ayers or racists like Jeremiah Wright, but God forbid somebody would call him a Muslim! No, he won't stand for that kind of smear! We admit that most terrorists are Muslims, but most Muslims are not terrorists and the statement on Mr. Obama's website is insulting to hundreds of millions of people.

How could a man who discards his family heritage in favor of political expediency be even considered for presidency of the United States? Where are all the so-called "Islamic civil rights groups" like CAIR, MPAC, ISNA, MAS, etc. who are quick to defend every Islamic terrorist, but are silent when Muslims in general are being denigrated? Would Mr. Obama have the same reaction if someone claimed that he was raised as a Jew? We sincerely doubt that.

Muslims Against Sharia demand immediate removal of "SMEAR: Barack Obama is a Muslim" statement from the official Barack Obama's website as well as an apology for giving the word "Muslim" a negative connotation.

Right, cause I think it's safe to say Obama created the negative connotation of the word "Muslim".

Let's all be honest here. Americans are scared of Muslims. I'm not saying that's Ok, but that's the truth of a Bush America. The Republicans have been hammering Americans with the idea that the entire Islamic world want to destroy us for the last eight years.

Not everybody out there has the wisdom and fortitude to go out and find the truth, they only know what they read in the news or what they hear from others.

Obama's rivals are not calling him a Muslim because they're confused about his religion. They're calling him a Muslim, because an unfortunately large group of Americans consider that a bad trait. Obama has no choice, but to fight the association. He can' pretend it's not there.

Republican smear campaigns are too good at this sort of thing. Obama has to get out in front and make it clear what he stands for.

The worst part is that people who should be his allies are attacking him. Do you know why the democratic party can't seem to take and hold power? It's because the groups within keep tearing it down.

Do you really think that McCain will do anything at all to help the Muslim community? Do you really think he won't just keep tearing it down, and calling them all terrorists? You and everyone like you are fighting the wrong war.

Get behind the guy who might actually help fix the problem. Obama didn't make "Muslim" a bad word. Get over your pretensions. Think about maybe contacting Obama, and asking him how he is going to help your community, and then talk about that for a while, instead of publishing this ill thought out garbage.
